The Counseling Center offers outreach and educational workshops and presentations on a variety of topics pertinent to college student success. These workshops are available to professors as adjunct to their classes, to student organizations as programs for member development or to university offices.
PURPOSE:
The goal is to provide an arena where students of Hispanic cultures may address the issues arising from their interactions in a predominantly white institution and to help them establish a sense of belonging within the University Community.
FORMAT/TIME:
The format will be Educational and Instructional. Students can participate in a few or all sessions. The sessions are open to all students who are currently enrolled.
LOCATION/TIME:
Sessions will be held between 3:30-4:45 pm on specific Tuesdays during the spring 2010 semester.
All sessions will be held in LBJ Student Center, Room 3-6.1.
PROCESS:
Structured talks and group exercises with a strong emphasis on supporting one another. Sessions will be conducted in English and Spanish (if required).
SESSION THEMES:
Themes will include specific areas which affect Hispanic/Latino(a) students as they interact with the university environment. Topics may overlap depending on the discussions at hand. The following is the schedule of sessions:

Positive Mental Regard refers to having the skills to be in control of your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in any situation.
It is about you getting to be in charge of how you see yourself, the situation you are in, and how to put positive meaning to both and go through each day in control of your world.
After this workshop you will be able to spot the "Robots" that walk among us and know that you are no longer programmed by others.
