How to DEAL (Develop Effective Approaches for Life)


These 50 minute workshops are offered throughout the semester.  Each workshop is held in LBJ Student Center Room 3-3.1 . Registration required. Please see below for schedule, room number and registration.
Presentations are given by Counseling Center Professional staff and are free for currently enrolled students.

Getting a Jump on Finals: Everyone knows how stressful final exams can be.  Instead of waiting to cram at the last minute, come to this session to get tips & tricks to FEEL and BE prepared to "make the grades" you want, not "take the grade you get."
ABC's of Zzz's: Improving Sleeping Habits: Sleep plays an important role in all aspects of life, including college success.  This workshop is geared to help you know how to get the amount and quality of sleep to best fulfill your goals as a student and beyond your collegiate career.
Recipe for Healthy Relationships: Relationships are an important part of our daily lives, from friendships to family ties to romantic partnerships.  Our goal is to help you understand how to develop and maintain components of a healthy relationship.
Social Confidence: Feeling Comfortable Out & About: Social interactions can be challenging or uncomfortable; they require a degree of confidence and confidence takes practice.  Come to learn ways to increase your comfort in day to day interactions.
Cultivating Self Esteem: Self-esteem often requires fostering of a positive sense of self.  The goal of this workshop is to provide tools to develop and nurture positive regard for self.
Understanding Racial Trauma & Self-Care: The psychological effects of racial trauma can take a deep toll on personal well-being.  Understanding these effects and practicing self-care is important and a step towards healing.
Resiliency in the Face of Stress: College often introduces stressors into daily life that might not have been experienced before.  Developing the ability to recover quickly from difficulties and adapt to new situations, resiliency can help to not only " make it" but grow through adversity.
