Counseling Center staff provides skill building workshop series each semester to enrolled students. They do not require students to be Counseling Center clients. These workshops often focus on personal concerns typically experienced by college students. Current workshop topics include depression, stress, anxiety, and anger. The Counseling Center staff provide information and other consultative services to persons who are having concerns about others’ behavior, are seeking material for a class presentation or assignment, are reporting for the media, or are planning programs. Additionally, students, faculty, and staff may receive referrals to community resources when needed or upon request.
Psychological assessment may be available as part of the counseling process or upon referral from an outside agency.

Some students may need psychiatric evaluation and treatment in addition to personal counseling. Counseling Center staff collaborates with psychiatric interns housed in the Student Health Center who have experience working with college students. The minimal co-payment fees for psychiatric services are generally at the student’s expense.
Counseling Center staff can provide educational programs and workshops to student groups and classes. These programs often focus on personal concerns typically experienced by college students. Previous workshop topics have included depression and anxiety, eating disorders, stress reduction (relaxation and biofeedback), and QPR Suicide Prevention. The Counseling Center trains psychologists through its doctoral level internship program, which is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Interns come from across the United States to complete the final year of their doctoral program providing clinical services under the supervision of licensed psychologists. The Counseling Center also maintains a practicum program for masters and doctoral students in counseling and psychology from nearby universities.
